Ways of Athena Slot Review: 25,000x Max Win & Demo

Ways of Athena slot review: the short version

This Ways of Athena slot review starts with a plain verdict: it is one of the sharpest high-volatility releases Thunderkick has made, and it earns our 9/10 ReelRadar Masterpiece badge.

Every spin begins with 243 ways to win. Special symbols can split into doubles, triples or fivefold versions of a reel one symbol, and together they push the total as high as 43,923.

The 94.21% RTP is the one number that looks weak on paper. We deal with it below. For players who like volatile, top-heavy maths, the rest of the package more than makes up for it.

Theme and presentation

Athena, goddess of wisdom and war, rules a sun-washed Greek landscape of temple columns, green hills and soft golden light. It avoids the bleached marble look that many mythology slots fall back on.

The symbol set stays on theme. Card ranks 10 to Ace form the low end. Vases, harps, shields, helmets and Athena herself are the premiums. A wild owl and a statue scatter handle the special jobs.

That clarity matters on a ways slot, where the number of active ways changes from spin to spin. Thunderkick keeps the animation tidy so you can see exactly what just happened.

Ways of Athena RTP, volatility and betting range

The Ways of Athena RTP is 94.21%, and the game is rated high volatility. It is built with two RTP configurations, and 94.21% is the higher one.

Hit frequency is about 23%. In practice, that means plenty of dead spins and small returns, with the real action saved for the bonus. This is not a slot for steady, low-risk sessions.

Stakes run from 0.10 to 100 per spin. That is a wide enough range for cautious testing and for high rollers, though the volatility means even small stakes can swing hard.

Matching Mystery symbols

The Matching Mystery symbol is the main attraction. These flame-orb symbols can land on reels 2 to 5.

In the base game this makes a modest line hit much more valuable. A mystery that matches a premium symbol can lift an ordinary spin into something worth watching.

The wild owl is a solid supporting piece. It substitutes for every symbol except the scatter, and five wilds in a winning combination pay 5x your stake.

Free spins and the orb meter

Three statue scatters start the free spins with 8 spins. Each extra scatter adds 2 more, up to a total of 44.

During the bonus, mystery orbs are collected in a meter beneath the grid. Fill it once and each mystery symbol splits into three ways instead of two. Fill it a second time and they split into five.

This is also the route to the maximum win. To reach 25,000x, you need a long spin count, a meter filled twice and a lot of mystery symbols lining up with strong reel one symbols.

BET+ options and feature buy

Thunderkick has added three optional BET+ modes, which you switch on from the side of the screen. Bonus Boost costs 1.3x your bet per spin and doubles your chance of triggering the bonus.

Flames of Athena changes the feel of the game more than the other two. The base game can feel a little plain without any BET+ active, because mystery symbols are only occasional.

Many versions of the game also sell a feature buy at 100x your bet, which takes you straight into the free spins.

Ways of Athena demo and free play

The Ways of Athena demo is the best way to learn the game, and you can run it on ReelRadar with no registration and no deposit.

Spend a few minutes on the free spins mechanics before you stake real money. The demo uses virtual credits, so it cannot show you how a real bankroll copes with a long dry run in a 94.21% RTP game.

Why it scores 9/10

Our scoring favours high volatility and a big max win, and Ways of Athena delivers both.

The weak spots are real. The RTP sits at the lower end, the base game can be quiet, and there are no multipliers or jackpots. We count the first as a fair price for the volatility.

Among Thunderkick slots, this one is a strong pick for players who want a clear mechanic and a real top-end prize. It also ranks among the better Greek-theme slots of the past couple of years.

Slots are random, and no review or strategy can change the result of a spin. Play only with money you can afford to lose, set limits, and gamble responsibly (18+).
